Nils Kallin in Japan (part 1)
An Unlikely Hero Aiding POW’s in Japan and his harrowing return home to Sweden through Russia. Along the way he meets a very interesting man. We are not aware of any other diplomats in that war-ravaged country who saved lives by standing up to the Kempetai, the brutal Japanese secret police. Prisoners were routinely tortured, starved or executed; Nils stood up to the authorities to distribute medicines to gravely ill civilian and POW concentration camp inmates.
Nils Kallin in the USSR (part 2)
We present the story of Nils Kallin – founder of The Swedish Canadian Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) and its first Chairman, CEO of SKF Canada, Honorary Swedish Consul-General in Toronto – who was a young executive with SKF in Japan during World War Two and who volunteered to represent nine countries and the League of Nations as a Vice-Consul at the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo.
Raoul Wallenberg Day 2020
Raoul Wallenberg – Honorary Canadian Citizen, Saviour of Thousands of Jews in Budapest. Raoul Wallenberg’s story is fascinating, not only because of his daring interventions against the Nazis and the Hungarian Arrow Cross to save tens of thousands of Jewish lives but because of subsequent events, which brought me close to this part of history.
