Welcoming Susan Berger

Susanne Berger is also a Senior Fellow at the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights (RWCHR) in Montreal, Canada. She is a graduate of American University in Washington D.C. with degrees in Economics and International Relations. Her research addresses the broader political and economic aspects of Wallenberg’s humanitarian mission to Budapest, as well as their associated effects on the investigation of his disappearance. From 1995-2001, she served as an independent consultant to the Swedish-Russian Working Group on Raoul Wallenberg.

She is the founder and coordinator of the Raoul Wallenberg Research Initiative (RWI-70). Ms. Berger has authored more than 200 articles and papers on the Wallenberg case and related topics. She is a current member of the jury for the Raoul Wallenberg Prize of the Council of Europe (2021-23). Since 2009 she has worked as an adviser to the campaign to win the release of Swedish-Eritrean journalist and playwright Dawit Isaak and other long-term disappeared.
